Uploading Files into CMMC Space
Uploading files into the environment is very simple, but it may not be immediately evident to new users. In order to upload files into the environment, first expand the Control Panel on the left of the screen and select Upload. From here, files can be directly dragged and dropped into the landing area shown below or users can click the box area shown to navigate their local file explorer.
Once your file explorer appears, select the file you intend to upload as normal and then select Open. You will see a status bar appear temporarily in the Control Panel that will then disappear once the file has uploaded successfully.
In order to save any files you've uploaded into the environment, you must save them to your Google Drive. All CMMC Space sessions are ephemeral. This means that once you have deleted the session, the temporary Uploads (and Downloads) folder will also be deleted.
In order to save any files you've uploaded into the Control Panel, navigate to your Google Drive. You can do this either through the Quick Access area on the homepage, or by visiting drive.google.com directly. Once there, select either the + New button or right click your Google Drive and select File upload. The Linux file explorer (shown below) will appear. Select the file you would like to save in your Drive, and then select Open.
You should now see the file you selected appear in your Google Drive! Depending on the size of the file, it may take a moment for the file upload to happen.
Downloading Files in CMMC Space
Downloading files in the environment is very simple. Regardless of the source a file is downloaded from, the process and location is the same. First, locate the file you need to download. For the purposes of this, I have selected the file we just uploaded into CMMC Space.
After selecting Download, the Linux file explorer has appeared. However, we see that the folder is empty. This is because the Downloads folder is visible. In the previous step, we saw the Uploads folder. Simply select the Save button and the file will be stored in your personal CMMC Space temporary downloads folder. Don't worry - no one else has access to your temporary downloads folder; they are tied directly to your Google profile.
You may see the Recent Download History drop down temporarily appear. Here, you will see any files you have downloaded during your current session. This will also be destroyed once you have deleted the session. Now, any files you have downloaded can be uploaded and sent through any secure portal you need to utilize.
Linux File Explorer
Below, you can see the temporary Uploads and Downloads folder in CMMC Space. Selecting the Desktop selection on the left side of the window will navigate you to this. From here, you can freely select either the Uploads or Downloads folder, depending on your specific use case. This explorer will only ever appear if you are trying to upload or download files while in the environment.
Note: If you attempt to upload an entire folder into the environment, the files contained in that folder will be uploaded instead. Complex folder structures will not be retained. This can be mitigated by zipping the folder you need to upload, and then unzipping the folder once you have saved the file to your Google Drive. Please let us know if you run into issues with this by opening a support ticket.
Additionally, you are unable to change the name of files inside the File Explorer. If you need to name a file, ensure that you upload the file to your Google Drive and rename the file.
